Pork or Prawn Wantan

I gotta really stop buying $9.00 for 2 mince meat packs. I always ended up with an extra mince meat pack and the only logical thing is to make wanton!!! No it's not a excuse..(~shifty eyes~)

Ingredients
500g of mince pork
1 table spoon of ginger mince
2 clove of garlic mince
1 spring onion chopped (the one in the picture look exceptionally huge due to uncle's worm water. It's from our garden)
1 coriander sprig chopped
2 table spoon of soy sauce
2 table spoon of oyster sauce (not in picture)
1 egg (not in picture), beaten in a separate bowl
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
50 wanton skins (not in picture, why is so many things not in the picture?)
1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon of five spice powder
1/4 teaspoon of pepper
water for boiling or oil for deep frying

Dipping sauce (not in picture) - from Kylie Kwong
2 cups rice wine vinegar
1 cup sugar
5 tablespoon fish sauce
2 large chili finely slice
Oil for frying

Step by Step
  1. Make sauce first because it needs to cool down. Boil vinegar and sugar together.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 15 minutes until it is almost half and slightly syrupy.
  3. Remove from stove and stir in chilli and fish sauce. Set aside and cool down.
  4. Now to make wanton, mix everything except wanton skin, oil and water in a large bowl.
  5. If wanton skin is in freezer, defrost in fridge first. Unwrap wanton and cover it with a clean cloth. That is because the dry Koala Air will suck the moisture out so fast they will turn into chips in no time.
  6. To fold wanton, use a teaspoon to scoop the filling and put it in the middle of the wanton skin. DO NOT SUCUMB TO URGE TO PUT MORE. Wanton skin will break. Then scrunch it up like you are crumpling a piece of paper. That is the easiest way to fold wanton. If you want to experiment, check this website for 10 ways of folding wanton. I tried a couple of methods.

7. Then you can either deep fry them or boil them.

8. I of course did both but I prefer frying because if you fry them, you can eat them by itself.

To serve, just plate it with wanton mee! It's the best combination.

It takes about 1 hour to make the fried wanton and another 1/2 hour to make wanton mee. If you like prawn wanton, there is a good prawn recipe from Kylie Kwong where I got the dipping sauce.

Cousin Bro likes it so much he eats through them like Pacman and keep saying "Oh so fat, so fat..".
